The Luciole
Lighting Design
Where enchantment meets functionality.
Inspired by the delicate beauty of dandelions, the lamp combines the soothing ambiance of soft, playful lighting with the practicality of a bedside nightlight.
Blow a wish as you drift off to sleep, experiencing the magic of bedtime with The Luciole.

Product Needs/Wants
I wanted to design some kind of ambient light that was: playful, whimsical, and simple for a child to use.

Stem Form Exploration
After exploring multiple forms, I was inspired from the final playdoh model to model the rightmost image. I printed that and used playdoh and wire to determine the leaf form. I wanted a shape that gave a dynamic view from each angle.

Color Selection
While my lamp is inspired from dandelions, I didn't want to choose colors that would distract from the light itself (such as light green) and I didn't want to fully mimic a dandelion.
Therefore, I chose to use a mix of gold and copper chrome. As the lamp turns you can see an interesting ombré.
Final Base
Creating the Interaction
1. Blow on the Luciole.
2. Lights fade out proportionally to strength of blow (harder blow = faster fade).

Mounting
To mount the NeoPixel under the dandelion head, I designed the above piece for the NeoPixel to sit inside and for the wires to go through the stem.
